Title: Travel Center and Retail Operations Director

Client is a very enterprising and well-funded organization, which is expanding into the travel center and convenience store industry via the development and construction of numerous state-of-the-art facilities.
They currently operate a number of profitable, consumer-facing businesses and have an exceptional reputation for community involvement
The TCROD will play an instrumental and key role in the initial startup, opening and continuing operations of the client’s first travel center, including those same functions for future convenience store new-to-industry locations. The chosen candidate will eventually fully manage all aspects of all facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities
Given the start-up nature of this venture, including but not limited to:
  • Supervises the total function of a 24/7/365 travel center which operates multiple profit centers.
  • Prices fuel and non-fuel merchandise in accordance with sales and profit objectives.
  • Maintains fuel and non-fuel inventory levels with the guidelines established for the location ensuring full selection and no run outs.
  • With support from corporate HR, perform full recruiting, interviewing, training, coaching and mentoring functions for location employees and Ass’t / Department Managers.
  • Work closely with F&B unit to ensure QSR and food service products reflect customer preferences.
  • Utilize industry knowledge to develop merchandising schematics, product selection and proper pricing levels.
  • Manage vendor negotiations to ensure cost / margin optimization and development of promotional calendars
  • Ensures location staff, property and premises always project a pleasing and welcome appearance, that all aspects of housekeeping are in order and anything needing attention is thoroughly and promptly remedied.
  • Seeks to maintain and elevate superior customer relations at all times through a team that provides fast, friendly service at a safe and clean location.
  • Develops and implements programs that recognize and reward outstanding customer service performed by employees. Sets an example of outstanding customer service.
  • Work to establish initial sales, margin and cost budgets. Subsequently, effectively manage to those budgets.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Business-oriented 4-year degree.
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in the management of an entire 24/7/365 travel center or truck stop facility, including the various profit centers (QSR, showers, fuel, store, service center, etc.). Experience managing multiple locations HIGHLY PREFERRED.
  • On-the-ground experience involved with the start-up and grand opening of a new travel center / truck stop facility to include but not limited to hiring personnel, vendor set-up and negotiation, merchandising, personnel training, etc.
  • Very high level of business aptitude, flexibility, work ethic, and operational standards.
  • Ability to analyze financial reports (e.g., understand the calculations on the P&L, coverage ratio, budget & expense reports, etc.) to create positive financial results at all times.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills to deliver information clearly and effectively to customers and employees. Ability to perform all non-management functions to assist when needed.
  • Demonstrate proficient customer service skills to provide best-in-class service.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with appropriate insurance coverage and acceptable driving record.
