Title: Transportation Operations Manager

Description:

Our client, a highly successful family owned convenience store, fuel distribution, and petroleum transport company seeks an experienced North Regional Transportation Operations Manager for their rapidly expanding transportation division.

This key role will be responsible for directly managing and supervising all inbound and outbound activities for a fleet of non-union drivers; overseeing and ensuring the safe and time-sensitive transportation of fuel products, including load assignment, planning, routing, monitoring and delivery; providing exceptional service to our drivers and customers; processing requests with meticulous follow-through; and ensuring driver compliance with both DOT and company regulations.

 

 Essential Responsibilities:

  • Meeting KPIs to include (but not limited to) utilization, asset management, safety, retention, revenue per tractor, and driver development
  • Creating a high level of engagement and energy and promoting high expectations of productivity from drivers
  • Building and maintaining positive professional relationships with drivers to minimize turnover and commit to their career success and personal growth
  • Assigning loads and planning, routing, and monitoring fuel movements to provide safe, on-time service and meet customer requirements, including driver ETA adjustments based on pick-up and delivery schedules, and other environmental factors on the road
  • Confirming that each driver is fully informed of all customer and company expectations at the point of dispatch
  • Coordinating drivers' availability, scheduled home time, current status, hours of service, special routing needs, utilization, etc.
  • Maintaining the company's safety culture to include driver safety messages, monthly driver safety briefings, quarterly driver training, and annual reviews
  • Addressing safety non-conformance and violations/incidents
  • Counseling drivers who are out of compliance with DOT and arranging specific re-training to help them regain good standing
  • Escalating matters impacting on-time delivery to appropriate management  
  • Preparing regular and ad-hoc reports as required
  • Working closely with support personnel, supervisor and customer account managers to keep lines of communication open
  • Working with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing and/or planning, mechanical problems, pay related issues, etc.

 

 Required Skills/Abilities:

 

  • 2+ years of driver management experience in asset-based transportation or third-party logistics is required. Special consideration given to experience in fuel transportation
  • Highly organized and communicative – strong oral, written and interpersonal skills and must be able to interact effectively at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Ability to perform in an environment with rapidly changing priorities and competing deadlines
  • Proven track record of making rational decisions in both routine and emergency situations
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to take initiative. Capability of thriving as a team player but also driven by autonomy
  • Able to prioritize information, and subsequent actions. provided by various sources
  • Keen analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills and ability to work with transportation / logistics software
  • Must understand policies, procedures, instructions, business objectives, and applicable statues regulating the petroleum transport industry
  • College degree (Bachelor’s or Associate’s) or some coursework toward a degree OR Military experience with fuel / logistics / transportation in lieu of college degree

 

Schedule/Shift:

  • M-F 6:00am – 3:30pm;
  • Every other Saturday 8:00am-12:00pm
