POSITION OVERVIEW:

Via the management of a small team, this position will be responsible for timely and accurate filing of excise, sales, and other business tax returns in a multi-state, multi-jurisdictional environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a team of industry leaders and integrate yourself into a growing, family-owned company.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Timely and accurate preparation, filing, and payment of monthly, quarterly, and annual fuel excise, IFTA, and other tax returns and compliance reporting for federal and state authorities.
  • Timely and accurate preparation, filing, and payment of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales/use, franchise, property and other tax returns and compliance reporting for state and county/parish authorities.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate registrations for federal, state, county/parish and local tax authorities. Timely file and pay all licenses, permits, bonds, miscellaneous and annual reports as required.
  • Research, interpret and apply federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain corporate systems and operating procedures to ensure compliance with current tax regulations.
  • Respond efficiently to jurisdictional inquiries/requests and log all correspondence appropriately
  • Perform reconciliations between the general ledger and tax returns before filing to ensure accuracy. Prepare journal entries and other pre/post filing tasks to support accurate and timely closing procedures.
  • Manage special projects as assigned by management

 

QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in excise and sales/use tax matters
  • Previous experience with the petroleum products industry a plus
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Comfortable with deadlines and achieving targets or goals.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to details
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Strong organization skills and ability to multitask
