Title: CFO - Convenience Retail Organization

Summary: As a key member of this leading convenience retailing company’s leadership team, the CFO will report to the Ownership and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the company’s retail unit accounting functions. This role will have primary responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all accounting-related activities of the company. This will include direct responsibility of accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, job costing, budget analysis and management, financial modeling and reporting, cost benefit analysis, and acquisitions.

Key Functions:
Planning

  • Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
  • Develop financial, tax, and GAAP compliance strategies
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
  • Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction
  • Develop short, medium, and long-term financial plans and projections.

Operations

  • Participate / lead in key decisions as leader of the accounting team
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
  • Manage the accounting, tax, and treasury departments
  • Responsible for the accounting operations of all facets of the retail business.
  • Closely coordinate internal control objectives to further the mission, vision and objectives of client company.
  • Oversee the company's transaction processing systems
  • In conjunction with HR, oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package
  • Supervise acquisition due diligence
  • As quickly as possible, bring month-end close reports to current status

Team Management

  • Develop, supervise, manage and evaluate direct Accounting staff to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function
  • Engage other members of the senior leadership team to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures that all Financial, IT, Operations, and HR solutions positively support company's evolving strategy and data collection needs
  • Risk Management
  • Responsible to understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Responsible to ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements of financial and accounting processes (GAAP)
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Report risk issues to the owners and provide effective solutions
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations


Treasury

  • Responsible to develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.

 

Skills/Qualifications

  • Proactive leader with demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, controls, analysis and reporting with values of integrity and transparency
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field
  • CPA not required. CPAs will be given preference.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible financial experience
  • Convenience store industry experience required
  • Skilled in examining, developing, re-engineering, and recommending financial and technology policies and procedures
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Hands-on and proactive management style
  • Able to execute complex financial models and forecasts
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written in order to interact effectively with both internal and external parties
  • Track record of process consolidation and streamlining
