Unbranded Wholesale Fuel Business Development Manager – Southwest

Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Unbranded Wholesale Fuel Business Development Manager to establish and grow its wholesale gasoline and diesel fuel business throughout the Southwest and selected Western markets.

This is a senior-level opportunity for a proven business developer who has extensive experience selling unbranded wholesale fuel, an established network of customers and industry contacts, and a demonstrated ability to convert relationships and prospects into profitable, sustainable gallon growth.

The successful candidate will be a genuine sales “hunter” who is comfortable building a market from the ground up. This individual will have considerable autonomy to develop and manage their own book of business while receiving support from an experienced leadership team and a robust fuel supply organization.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a regional sales strategy to grow unbranded gasoline and diesel volume, gross profit, and market presence.
  • Establish and expand relationships with fuel retailers, distributors, jobbers, resellers, truck stops, commercial accounts, fleets, and other wholesale fuel customers.
  • Leverage existing industry relationships while aggressively prospecting for new business.
  • Manage the complete sales process, including prospect identification, customer qualification, presentations, proposals, RFPs, pricing, contract negotiations, onboarding, and account development.
  • Create and maintain a strong CRM pipeline with clearly defined opportunities, status updates, anticipated volume, profitability, and next steps.
  • Develop detailed account and market plans addressing competitive activity, customer needs, share-of-wallet opportunities, decision-makers, and growth potential.
  • Work closely with supply, accounting, credit, and operations personnel to develop competitive customer solutions and ensure successful account implementation.
  • Monitor fuel pricing, supply conditions, competitive activity, customer liftings, and market developments.
  • Help resolve credit, billing, supply, allocation, and other customer-related issues while protecting both the relationship and the company’s financial interests.
  • Provide management with accurate sales forecasts, market intelligence, activity reports, and business-development plans.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5+ years of successful unbranded wholesale fuel business-development experience.
  • An established network of unbranded fuel customers, prospects, suppliers, refiners, and other industry contacts.
  • Demonstrated success developing new territories, opening accounts, growing gallons, and generating profitable gross margin.
  • A proven record as a closer, including success with cold calling, relationship development, formal proposals, RFPs, and contract negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of wholesale fuel pricing, supply, logistics, allocations, credit considerations, and account profitability.
  • Ability to independently develop and manage a substantial book of business without constant supervision.
  • Entrepreneurial, highly motivated, competitive, organized, and willing to perform the hands-on work required to establish the company’s presence in the market.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience utilizing CRM platforms and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree is highly desired.

Territory and Location

The initial market focus is expected to include Arizona, Nevada, Utah, California, Oregon, and Washington. Candidates located in the Southwest or elsewhere in the Western United States are preferred.

Initial Priorities

During the first 90 days, the individual will work closely with senior leadership to understand the company’s supply capabilities, assess regional market dynamics, develop a detailed market-entry strategy, establish the necessary supply and resale relationships, and build a qualified sales pipeline. The longer-term objective will be to convert those opportunities into a substantial and highly profitable portfolio of wholesale fuel customers.
