| Description: | Compensation: $200,000 – $260,000 (DOE) base salary, plus 25% – 30% bonus opportunity This executive will lead the company’s fuel strategy, fuel procurement, retail fuel pricing, fuel margin management, environmental compliance, and fuel operations analytics across a sizeable company-operated retail fuel network. The role is responsible for securing competitively priced fuel supply, negotiating with national and regional suppliers, managing daily retail fuel pricing, and developing strategies that optimize profitability while maintaining appropriate volume targets. The successful candidate will serve as the company’s subject matter expert in fuel pricing, fuel procurement, competitive market strategy, and fuel operations performance. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring strong analytical capability, commercial judgment, supplier negotiation experience, and the ability to present fuel strategy and performance clearly to senior leadership. Key Responsibilities The VP of Fuel Operations will oversee the development and execution of retail fuel pricing strategy across our client's mid-sized convenience store chain. This individual will manage daily fuel pricing decisions using pricing technology, market intelligence, competitor surveys, store-level performance data, volume trends, margin expectations, and supplier cost information. The role requires the ability to balance fuel volume, fuel margin, customer traffic, competitive positioning, and overall enterprise profitability. The VP will negotiate fuel supply agreements and pricing formulas with fuel suppliers, refiners, wholesalers, and other petroleum industry partners. This includes monitoring rack pricing, PADD pricing, supplier economics, transportation costs, and market conditions to ensure the company is using the most advantageous supply options. The position will lead a small fuel operations team responsible for fuel pricing support, reporting, analysis, systems administration, and related fuel operations activities. The role will also partner closely with Operations, Retail, Category Management, Finance, IT, Real Estate, Marketing, and senior leadership. Additional responsibilities include overseeing environmental compliance related to motor fuel storage and handling, monitoring changes in state and federal compliance requirements, supporting fuel equipment decisions, and helping guide the company’s electric vehicle and alternative fuel strategy. Future or expanded responsibilities may include wholesale fuel relationships, fuel hedging, and fuel transportation or logistics support. Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a seasoned retail fuel, petroleum, convenience store, or downstream oil and gas professional with direct experience managing fuel pricing, fuel procurement, and supplier relationships across a multi-site retail fuel network. This person should understand how to balance volume and margin, respond to aggressive competitive pricing, evaluate market restorations, negotiate fuel supply contracts, and use data to tell a clear business story. The company is seeking someone who can operate effectively in an environment with formal business reviews, regular performance reporting, annual planning, budgeting, and executive-level presentations. Strong candidates will have experience with fuel pricing platforms such as Kalibrate or similar systems, environmental compliance platforms such as Titan Cloud or SSA, and wholesale fuel or petroleum management systems such as Axxis, PDI, or comparable tools. Demonstrated ability to effectively compete against new market entrants. Desired Experience Qualified candidates should bring significant experience in retail fuel pricing, fuel procurement, petroleum supply, convenience store fuel operations, downstream oil and gas, or a closely related field. Experience working with or for major fuel suppliers is highly desirable. A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Petroleum Management, Retail Operations, Supply Chain, or a related discipline is preferred, although equivalent industry experience will be considered. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong financial acumen, analytical ability, contract negotiation skills, project management discipline, leadership capability, and the ability to communicate effectively with executives, suppliers, field teams, and cross-functional partners. Why This Role Is Compelling This is an opportunity to step into a highly influential executive role with direct impact on fuel profitability, supply strategy, competitive positioning, compliance, and long-term retail fuel performance. The company is seeking a leader who can bring discipline, insight, and strategic direction to a large fuel operation while also developing the team, improving tools and processes, and helping the business navigate an increasingly competitive retail fuel environment. |
