Title: Category Manager - Tobacco

Compensation: $140K +/- (base + bonus, DOE)

Summary of Position:
  The Tobacco Category Manager in conjunction with the entire marketing team and other departments, determines the annual unit and gross profit growth of these categories utilizing established Category Management processes to develop annual marketing plans.  The position then coordinates the implementation of those plans, analyzes trends and results and ultimately makes appropriate adjustments as dictated by those results.

The successful Candidate will need to have proven experience in the development and execution of comprehensive marketing plans / programs for both short and long range.  This position is both tactical as well as strategic.  Extensive interaction with suppliers will be required: from the initial qualification to the on-going relationship/negotiation to detail information exchange, thus establishing a very solid partnership relationship resulting in a profitable “win-win” scenario for all involved. This position would be the product subject matter expert for the company, should be highly knowledgeable of trends, market opportunities, etc. and be ready to execute those to maximize a competitive edge or profit opportunity.

Key Job Responsibilities: 

  • Develop category strategy and roadmap for future business growth
  • Accountable for category performance (sales, pricing, margin management, planogram, product offer, brand category development, supplier development & negotiation), provide update on plan and take appropriate action for under-performing areas
  • Accountable for the category marketing program within the allocated budget, ensure spend effectiveness and time plan to support overall convenience retail marketing strategy
  • Responsible for category innovation to support company overall objectives
  • Accountable for external partnership with suppliers and partners within the industry
  • Manage the relationship with all other departments to ensure maximum execution and profit potential 
  • Provide category business review by analyzing brand, supplier, and sub-category performance. Lead the review on monthly, quarterly, annual and then appropriately as market changes dictate the need
  • Continually develop the categories, identifying new concepts and products that will create customer demand; perform continuous customer research to allow the company to have the cutting edge tobacco category strategy within the industry

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of specific Category Management experience within a multi-unit retail chain, preferably within the Convenience Store industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or related business field or extensive industry/category experience
  • Strong performance and delivery track record
  • Corporate store experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze sales data via Excel, Access, scan data, IRI, Neilson, Focal Point, etc.
  • Exceptional teamwork and demonstrated track record of successful collaboration with retail operations leading to best-in-class implementation of programs
  • Demonstrated increases in category profitability.
