Title: Deli Operations Director

Job Overview:

The Deli Operations Director will be a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Director of Operations, Finance and IT. This role will oversee the deli leadership at multiple locations, managing the operations of both front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) food preparation, including the bakery. The position emphasizes strategic leadership, continuous process improvement, and people management to ensure the deli department operates efficiently and exceeds customer expectations.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Leadership and Team Management
  • Provide strategic direction to deli leadership teams across all locations. 
  • Encourage a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence among the deli and bakery teams.
  • Enhance and guide team members to strengthen their leadership skills and foster their professional growth.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations. 

Operations Oversight
  • Oversee daily FOH and BOH operations, ensuring seamless coordination and high-quality customer service.
  • Collaborate with deli managers to optimize food preparation workflows and maintain inventory levels.
  • Support the attainment of targeted departmental profitability across all offerings.
  • Implement and monitor KPIs to track operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Process Improvement
  • Evaluate and refine production processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product consistency.
  • Partner with Finance, Category management, and Store Leadership teams to align operational goals with budgetary objectives.
  • Leverage technology and data to streamline operations and inform decision-making.

People Management
  • In coordination with the Recruiting Specialist, lead the recruitment, onboarding, and training efforts for deli and bakery staff.
  • Address staffing challenges, including scheduling and performance management.
  • Create an inclusive and supportive work environment
  • Facilitate regular performance reviews, providing constructive feedback and recognition to foster a culture of growth and accountability.

Collaboration and Communication
  • Serve as the primary liaison between deli, operations, and the stores' leadership team ensuring strategic communication, alignment, and attainment
  • Communicate effectively with leadership at all levels to support organization-wide initiatives.
  • Lead regular meetings with deli managers to share updates, review goals, and foster cross-location collaboration.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • 5+ years of proven leadership experience in deli or food service operations, ideally within a retail or cooperative environment
  • Strong understanding of FOH and BOH operations, including bakery production processes.
  • Expertise in process improvement methodologies and data-driven decision-making.
  • Exceptional people management skills with a track record of building high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Expert operational Knowledge of food safety regulations and industry best practices.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or some other related field, preferred.
  • Experience in multi-location retail restaurant management.
  • Familiarity with cooperative business models.
  • Proficiency in financial and operational analysis.
  • Operational experience with retail Point of Sale (POS) Systems, Catapult experience is a plus
  • Operational experience with food costing software, reciProfity experience is a plus
