Job Summary: 

Reporting directly to the company President, our client’s The Director of Operations Excellence position presents a unique opportunity to develop, mentor, implement, monitor and foster excellence and  best practices.

It supports the company goals and vision by focusing on profitability, competitiveness, personal accountability, customer service and work efficiency. This position will be responsible to lead a team of District Managers and other personnel to ensure smooth day to day operations of all retail sites.

This role drives customer-centric culture within the stores to increase sales and profitability. Directs the District Managers in developing and implementing best practices, measuring operational efficiencies, continuously improving productivity and achieving operational standards of excellence. Drive the execution of succession planning, workforce planning and development of direct reports. Instill a culture of accountability for all measurables, improving the customer experience and driving a culture of coaching, engagement and teamwork

Key Responsibilities:

  • Has accountability for sales, profits, people development within the operations team and smooth operations of all operated sites
  • Directs, through subordinate managers and staff, the ongoing operations and development of the retail operations within the scope of the company’s mission and vision. Take decisions on matters relating to the day to day retail operation within their defined work area including the strategic planning of resources.
  • Responsible to translate strategic goals into retail operational plans to achieve the required targeted growth in sales and profits. Operates within the labor budget hours while managing operational efficiency, productivity and overtime at the stores.
  • Ensures that the retail operation complies with all policies and procedures and maintains a high-performance culture.
  • Utilizes a combination of remote (COVID-19) and personal hand-on approach by leading, supporting and coaching direct reports and store teams to understand and identify business critical issues in order to ensure the alignment of tactics, strategy and achieve business goals.
  • Takes a lead role in building a people development culture within the operations team (succession planning). Spends time coaching direct reports and identifying skills and opportunities for development. Provides advice and guidance on Site General Manager issues when needed.
  • Works with Human Resources to ensure people management issues are satisfactorily resolved and relevant HR policies and procedures are adhered to. Participates in disciplinary, grievance unemployment hearings and appeals as required.
  • Proactively manages and reviews the performance and progress of District Managers and other direct reports, sets objectives and goals.
  • Participates in the strategic direction and decision-making process for new initiatives, projects and procedures as necessary.
  • Works closely with Marketing to assist in the development and subsequent effective execution of marketing plans, promotions and initiatives.

 

Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in a Director or Region Operations Director role, including the management of a team of District Managers in a convenience store environment required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Must have experience in development and growth of retail store chain.
  • Experience in the management of food service operations within a convenience store environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and act on data provided by industry back office systems including inventory control, pricing recommendations, etc.
  • Excellent P&L analysis skills.
  • Ability to lead effectively in a demanding, fast paced, team environment.
  • Verifiable history of developing internal talent.
  • Remote nature of this role requires demonstrate ability to be self-motivated and take initiative.
  • Exceptional professionalism and ability to represent company ownership in a public-facing role.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and/or weekends.
  • Flexible travel. Can be demanding.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Detail oriented.
