Summary:

This position encompasses all products and services within the C-Store environment.  The position will play a key role in developing the company’s marketing vision, creating the strategic initiatives supporting that vision and working closely with management and operations on implementation. Additionally, the development and implementation of category marketing and merchandising strategies for each product/service category in order to maximize overall store profitability will be key accountabilities. 

This position will be responsible for the overall management of each category’s day-to-day performance and overall brand direction.  The Director of Marketing is also responsible for the appropriate interaction with the supplier community and internal staff as required.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effective management of a category management and marketing team
  • Evaluate and develop current priorities and initiatives for each of the assigned categories as they relate to current trends and overall impact to the company. 
  • Review, evaluate and assess category retail sales, gross profit and gross profit % regularly versus plan, same store and other performance tracking or comparisons as necessary. 
  • Analyze velocity reports on purchases to ensure efforts are focused on the appropriate product mix.
  • Analyze and review performance of products to determine profitability.
  • Analyze and project profitability of new or special products and make recommendations to management based on findings.
  • Price product according to guidelines and competitive environment. 
  • Develop strategies and tactics for each assigned category based on current performance, industry trends and company philosophies.
  • Lead the development of category business plans..
  • Negotiates item assortment, product pricing, merchandising, promotions, terms and any other initiative as necessary with the appropriate suppliers. 
  • Coordinate and manage the process of developing, implementing and maintaining appropriate plan-o-grams.
  • Ensure Pricebook updates and information as they become available.
  • Responsible for management of point of purchase (POP) as it relates to retail marketing. 
  • Communicate with retail operations management and store personnel via e-mail or printed bulletins concerning day-to-day operations of their stores as it relates to marketing initiatives.
  • Works with field operations to ensure timely and accurate implementation and execution of category initiatives and programs.
  • Develop and work to implement social media strategy, promotions, and tactics as they relate to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Apps, loyalty programs, bluetooth technology, etc.
  • Manage agency relationships responsible for providing print, radio advertising and social media

 

Required skills, education/experience:

  • Four-year college degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years middle management experience or related marketing/merchandise management experience.
  • Personnel management experience, preferably in a marketing department environment
