POSITION SUMMARY:            
 

Our client is a highly successful, family-owned company, operating a chain of convenience stores and fuel distribution to branded outlets, commercial and industrial customers.  The company is currently seeking a qualified COO to manage the company’s sales, distribution and retail operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established goals, objectives, and policies.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working in conjunction with the executive leadership team, this role is essential to the company’s succession planning.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reporting to the CEO, COO will provide leadership in enhancing profitability, maximizing efficiencies, streamlining workflows, and driving strategic initiatives for all commercial divisions, as well as management, guidance and mentoring for the retail division.
  • Work closely with sales management teams to ensure best practices with regards to prospect development, pricing, margins, closing new business and competitive information.
  • Accountable for the planning, oversight, and ultimate execution of the company's strategy and annual operating plan.
  • Analyze, assess and make recommendations regarding organization and its structure.
  • Develop and implement operating standards, policies, procedures and hold employees accountable toward achieving those standards, policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Accounting & Finance Dept to establish accurate and timely financial reporting, systems and controls.
  • Assess facilities, rolling stock, infrastructure and other systems and develop a prioritized capital budget.
  • Maintain open and effective communications and relationships with all constituencies, including product suppliers, vendors, financial institutions, government and regulatory authorities and employees.
  • Establish and implement short and long-term planning processes.
  • Be a consistent and effective leader, manager and role model.
  • Ensure that operating groups are functioning within the documented guidelines of ethics and good practices.


QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  • BS degree in related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years’ combined experience within branded petroleum sales management and convenience retail operations / marketing.
  • Strong business acumen. This includes knowledge about how businesses work, business trends and the implications to their business, strong competitive knowledge, and how strategies and tactics work in the marketplace.
  • Proven ability to work with the CEO/CFO/Departments to develop sales volume targets, profitability targets, and operating expense benchmarks.
  • Strong background in staff development and building internal bench strength.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing performance metrics to enhance profitability, quality, and customer service levels.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Energetic and inspirational leadership style.
  • An established record of success in increasingly responsible positions as an operating executive, ideally from service-driven, customer-focused markets.
  • Results-oriented with strong commitment and follow-through on execution and implementation.
  • Lead in a fiscally prudent and competitive manner.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and a highly strategic perspective.
  • Must have strong abilities in the use of Microsoft Office.
